Apparently a *proper* winter is on its way this month. It’s fair to say that the season has been pretty mild so far, but having just walked the dogs in a bit of a gale, I’m feeling positively chilled! Part of me loves the excuse to layer up though in honesty, and ever more so at the moment as I’ve been fawning over the stunning costumes in the new BBC adaptation of War and Peace.
When we first heard it was happening and saw the trailer, I got very excited at the prospect…I’ve never read it or seen another adaption, and we are BIG Gillian Anderson fans in this house! I’ve also been watching Downton Abbey recently (finally catching up!) and have a total girl-crush on Lily James too. And I’d have to say her costumes have been my favourite…stunning woollen coats fitted at the waist and flaring out in yard and yards of skirt, beautiful (faux, I hope) fur hats and cuffs and collars…it’s almost enough to be thankful of the cold!
I confess, I’ve already treated myself in the January sales to a beautiful Dubarry faux fur headband and boot liners, and they’ve been my favourite thing ever since. They’re SO warm and cosy, I wish I could wear them indoors too. Apart from the obvious advantages of faux fur over real, they’re also machine washable, which is a must when most of my outdoors time involves two muddy dogs!
Anyway, not satisfied by a real purchase to stop me from window shopping, I’ve rooted out a few more beautiful wintery pieces I’d love to cosy myself in….
I can’t wait for the next episode of War and Peace, although I’m rather sad it’s the last one. Maybe I should just bite the bullet and read the book?!
