Fresh faced…… New make up rituals for Spring

So it’s no surprise that the new season has brought us another beauty trend or two, and it being Spring and all, it’s no surprise either that the make-up-musts are lighter, brighter and, well, Springier. And whilst I’m sure to pick up on the modern take on cats-eye flicks, and shades of blue at some point, my everyday routine has taken on a much more fresh faced approach.

The Spring runways, along with our glossy magazines have been filled with shades of peachy glow, which has come at a perfect time for me really. I decided a few weeks ago to give up foundation for a while….. I’ve never been massively into foundation to be honest, and have always opted for something as light as possible like Revlon’s Skin Lights tinted moisturiser (which contains SPF 15 and lots of tiny little reflective bits to make you look all glowy) or Mac’s Studio Fix (which I find goes on so easy, with the benefit of extra coverage and sun protection too). But still, it took some guts to go outside for the first time with my skin all naked.

Soon after I made the decision I came across an article telling me why I *should* be wearing foundation. I was horrified that I’d made such a ridiculous decision and read on to see what a fool I’d been making of myself. But there is no real reason that wearing foundation is better for you. The main benefits seem to be sun protection (and you can get that from a moisturiser) and even skin tone. And it occurred to me that if I stayed clear of covering my skin up with product for a while, my skin may actually become naturally more even. So I persisted, and haven’ looked back again.

Of course, I’m in no way saying I’ve gone all hippy and natural, throwing away all my lovely cosmetic treasures. Far from it. I love getting made up and playing about with make up. And there is no way I will EVER leave the house without at least some mascara on. So, here is what I’m wearing most days now, embracing both my new mantra and this Spring beauty trend…..

I’m finding I get a lovely base from my new favourite moisturiser Elemis Pro Collagen Marine Cream…. it makes me feel all glowy and smells like bubble tea (and provides the necessary protection for going outside). No foundation doesn’t mean I dare to go out with no concealer…. I find Benefit’s Boing concealer blends in under the eyes really well. Then for sporty flushed cheeks, I love Mac’s Sheertone Shimmer Blush in Dollymix. And no matter how neutral a look I’m after, I have to have my eyebrows neat and tidy…. Benefit’s Brow Zings does the job smartly.

For peachy glowy colour, it has to be Benefit’s creaseless eye colour cream in Sippin n Dippin….. and for the finishing glow, their Moon Beam highlighter over the cheek bones. No7’s Exceptional Definition Mascara coats each lash delicately for a wide eyed but natural look. And then to finish, Kiehl’s Tinted Lip Balm in shade 30G provides the perfect rose bud lip pout, and boasts sun protection too.

No foundation required!
