Wednesday Wants: Back to School

OK, so I’m not *actually* going back to school. BUT, I do have a shiny new studio in our shiny new house to set up and fill with shiny things!

Most things are still in boxes after the move, although my desk is up at least! I have a load of amazing second hand white metal peg boards to put up before I do any serious unpacking though….can’t wait to fill them with stuff!

Anyways, I get all excited at this time of year with all the “back to school” things around…..as you’ll probably already know, I’m pretty stationery obsessed anyway, so this is a super tempting time for me!

Here are my current lust-after picks…..

I’m super into rose gold, copper and brass at the moment….it’s featuring heavily in our new home decor for sure. And how classy would these babies look on my lush new desk, huh?

I’ve also been crazy about neons for a while now, and well, I’m in love with this clever case by Undercover on Not on the High Street. I’m CONSTANTLY losing all those important strings and things that you need to connect all the gadgets, and I HATE them not having a real home. So, against all the odds, I’ve actually chosen a really *sensible* something for once!

So the third and final thing on the list is basically EVERYTHING at Paperchase. They do it to me every time…..new collections FILLED with shiny new things I WANT WANT WANT. Here are a few of my particular favourites though…..

Wednesday Wants: It’s National Stationery Week!

Did you know it’s National Stationery Week?! Now I don’t need any excuse to get excited about stationery, but this seemed like a good reason to feature what is certainly one of my favourite things on this week’s ‘Wants’ list. And what better way to indulge in some of my other favourite things….robots, neons, dinosaurs, mythical creatures…..stationery does it all!

It’s glossy, it’s blue, it’s covered in robots. Oh, and you can fill it with cool pens. What’s not to like?!

How adorable is this illustrated notebook by the talented Emma Randall? I love the blue unicorn, and that cheeky octopus!

I’ve been ever so slightly obsessed with neons for over a year now. Fluorescent stuff reminds me of my childhood, especially when that stuff is stationery. It puts me in mind of staking out Woolworths in the school holidays, plotting how best to spend my pocket money. So of course, I’m crazy about these super cute bear highlighters with their sweet expressions.

Just think of the things I could neon-ify with these babies…..

Fluoro meets Egyptology. Way cool. I’d stencil hieroglyphs onto everything with this. Probably with my neon pens.

And when I have to be a little more grown up, these lush Liberty prints will help soften the blow. I love adding pretty stickers to parcels when I send out my orders, and these would make packing even more satisfying.

Dinosaurs on parcels, on envelopes, on notebooks, on little notes, on the back of my hand, and probably all over the walls if I had my way….all possible with these bad boys.

And what could be more of a productivity boost than a bright yellow notebook telling you to ‘Make if Happen’? For lists, doodlings and planning great adventures….I’m pretty sure this notebook could help me make it happen. (Also, these Panama notebooks have proven to be super practical for me….they’re a great size for carrying around, and the supple cover holds its own even at the bottom of my junk filled handbags!)

Happy National Stationery Week everyone! Go forth and treat yourself to a fancy new pen or something!

Wednesday Wants… Easter eggs and other gift ideas

For weeks now I’ve been ogling the supermarket shelves as they’ve filled up with rows on rows of Easter treats. There’s no worse time of the year for chocolate temptation, in my opinion….as much as Christmas tends to bring with it more than its fair share of chocolatey goodness, there are so many other treats on offer that chocolate pales in comparison. We’ve already eaten our first Cream Eggs (keenly lamenting the loss of their traditional recipe), and scoffed more than one bag of Mini Eggs, which are clearly the work of the devil due to their temptation factor.

As usual though, I’m also massively drawn to pretty packaging, and I just adore the look of some of the more ‘luxury’ type of Easter treats. None more so than Booja Booja‘s Easter Collection which looks simply divine….

Featuring hand-painted, papier-maché Easter eggs made in Kashmir, each is hand-packed in Norfolk with delicious chocolate truffles in several flavours. If you’ve not tried Booja Booja chocolates before, I highly recommend that you do. And once you have, I bet you’ll find it hard to believe that they’re vegan, and free of gluten, dairy and soya.

The truffles are seriously luxurious, rich and dreamy and melt-in-the-mouth. You can choose from Hazelnut Crunch, Around Midnight Espresso, Banoffee Toffee, Almond and Sea Salt Caramel, or Fine de Champagne. Small eggs, which include three truffles are £9.99, whilst the large eggs, which contain twelve truffles, are £24.99. Plus of course you get to keep the beautiful egg once you’ve finished off the contents, and use it to hoard treasures and trinkets!

If you’re trying to kerb your chocolate consumption though, perhaps try this yummy sounding lip balm from Sweet Cecily’s. The entire range is hand-made and natural, paraben and SLS free, and never tested on animals. This one even looks like a chocolate bar….but with the advantage that it won’t go straight to your hips!

If you really must ditch the chocolate entirely though, I think these adorable egg cups by Quail Ceramics are a perfect Easter treat. I’ve long since lusted after their adorable animal inspired treasures, and these three are just so perfect for a Spring breakfast spread.

And because it’s not *all* about food (well, almost), I think this super cute trinket dish would make an adorable Easter gift. Just look at that podgy little bunny, waiting to tidy up your treasures! He’d be a lovely addition to a dressing table, or would be perfect to pop next to the sink for when you need to take your rings off!

I hope you have a lovely Easter filled with whatever treats tickle your fancy!

Wednesday Wants: Packing Frenzy

As we prepare for our house move next week, I’m in a serious packing frenzy and the house is full of cardboard boxes, bubble wrap and packing tape. I usually get pretty excited about packing, and I did at least enjoy bundling up the first few boxes of books, CDs and fragile treasures…..it gets boring fairly fast though, and trickier and trickier as the house gets further into disarray! So I was thinking that a distraction was in order, and that perhaps if I had some fun stuff to pack with, I’d get excited about it again. And what better distraction than shopping……

Check out these super cute packing tapes! Adorable aren’t they? I’d be a demon with the tape gun if I had these, and I bet the moving men would take extra special care with our treasures too!

1

HANDLE WITH CARE packing tape, £6.50 from Hazel Nicholls on Etsy

I have a collection of label makers of course, but just think how productive I’d be with the DYMO LabelWriter 450! It comes with proprietary DYMO label software and enables you to create and print address, shipping, file, folder and barcode labels…..and at a speed of 51 labels per minute! Unpacking would surely be a breeze if I had this baby to get organised with!

Of course packing and moving calls for a lot of lists. I don’t need much encouragement to list really, but I’d list all day on this adorable little note book. It’s even got a Cooper dog look-a-like on it (one of his nicknames is Bambi!).

New home means new stationery. Obviously. Maybe I’ll wait until we’re in our ‘forever home’, but I really do fancy some proper headed writing paper. I’d keep it in my correspondence box and write on it with my dippy pen before blotting it like I’m in a Dickens novel.

Actually we’ve already told most people who’d like to know our new address, but still, it’s a nice excuse for some fancy cards, right?

Wednesday Wants: Back to School with Not On The High Street

This week I got the very exciting news that I’ve been accepted to join Not On The High Street, and I’ll be opening up a little Under A Glass Sky shop there very soon! Naturally, I’ve been using this as an excuse to spend ages browsing this lovely site, snooping around and window shopping…..And what with it being that time of year (not to mention my stationery obsession) I’ve been very much led down the ‘Back To School’ path. And that’s despite not actually having been to school in some time now!

Still, a girl can still hanker after some fancy new stationery can’t she? Here’s my picks….

Personalised Pencil Case, by TILLYANNA, £8

Well this literally has my name all over it! And not only was this lovely pencil case clearly *made* for me, but it also stipulates it’s to carry my ‘creative kit’….which means I could fill it with all kinds of marvellous things!

Pack Of 12 Personalised Colouring Pencils, by ABLE LABELS, £6.50

And to fill that personalised pencil case? Why, a set of personalised pencils of course!

‘Stuff I’m Likely To Forget’ Notebook, by BREAD & JAM, £13.50

Another thing *clearly* made for me! I just have to keep list upon list, lest I forget where I’m coming from and what I’m doing. And there’s nowhere better to keep all those lists than a super cute note book like this one.

Personalised ‘From The Kitchen Of’ Stamp, by PRETTY RUBBER STAMPS, £12.50

I love stamping things. I used to have a self built toy post office as a child and would merrily stamp anything that sat still for long enough. This one would be great for home-baked gift giving….and you know, just anything that sits still long enough.

Rob Ryan For Alphabet Bags Initial Tote Bag, by ALPHABET BAGS, £16

Of course, one always needs a pretty new bag to carry one’s pretty new things in. I adore Rob Ryan and these initial book bags with his darling paper-cut initials on make me smile.

Bunny In The Field Paper Clip Holder, by KIKI’S GIFTS AND HOMEWARE, £15

And now for the pièce de réstistance…. I am just crazy about this little bunny rabbit! He cleverly gathers up all your paper clips, and he’s silly cute to boot. I want him on my desk this instant!

Are you allowing yourself any ‘Back to School’ time extravagances? What type of stationery really floats your boat?!

Do keep an eye out for my Not On The High Street shop….my vintage stamp jewellery should be live on there in a week or so!

Wednesday Wants….. Christmas Tree Ornaments

I’m afraid I’m not one of those people who carefully styles their themed Christmas tree in matching colours and with perfectly chosen decorations. My tree always has been, and always will be, a mish-mash of home made bits and bobs of all shapes, sizes and colours. If I ever have a second tree for Christmas, I will no doubt dress it immaculately in coordinated adornments, but until then it’s home-made charm all the way! And so, with that in mind, I’ve been spying a few Christmas tree ornaments that would fit nicely with my no-theme theme……

I think these are just brilliant. Cute and funny, and sort of traditional in a quirky way, these sets of Victorian style chenille dog and cat ornaments are handmade and designed by Old World Primitives and sold on Etsy. Each little face is a Victorian era image, mounted onto little chenile bodies. They are just so wonderfully different and charming…..and they’d fit in with my other ornaments beautifully! The cats are £6.37 for a set of two (plus £4.43 shipping to the UK) and the dogs come as a set of three for £7.64 (plus the same shipping). I love them!

There’s something so wonderfully decadent about this beaded bauble by Creative Treasures on Folksy. Hand woven using tiny seed beads in a Russian Leaf design, it’s brilliantly Deco and rather reminds me of a 30s chandelier or head dress! Its utter glitzyness would definitely make it at home with my other decorations! It’s £8.50 with £2.70 shipping to the UK.

This last one is just so much fun! I love the idea of Father Christmas delivering presents on his own space rocket! The design rather reminds me of the little ornaments I made from model clay a few years ago….I made jolly, fat Father Christmases, snow men and reindeer….unfortunately they are all a little damaged now after moving house a few times so they need some TLC! In the mean time though, this personalised one by Chantal Davenport on Not on the High Street would fill the gap brilliantly! It’s £11.50 with UK shipping at £2.75.

How do you like to decorate your tree? Do you have lots of hand-made ornaments, or do you have a proper colour scheme and theme?!

Wednesday Wants……. home making with Not On The High Street

As we prepare to move from our little London flat, to our big new house in the country (how ‘rah’ does that sound?!) we’re doing lots of shopping for the new bits of furniture we need. We’ve been to charity furniture warehouses, vintage markets, car boots, and big chain-style shops to find what we *need*. And we’ve done pretty well, all told….we quickly agreed on a sofa, which we just heard should be with us very soon after we move in (everyone touch some wood please)….we’ve been very lucky with some second hand treasures….and we have placed the inevitable Ikea order (who knows when that will arrive?!).

But of course, with all this shopping and searching going on, and me being me, I haven’t been able to help but be distracted by things we certainly don’t *need*, but I nevertheless *want*! So, I’d better get some of it out of my system, eh?……

Floral Vintage Linen Tea Towel Screen, by The London Chair Collective, £500

I’ve wanted a screen since I was a little girl. You see them in all the glamorous old films, and they conjure images of elegant lifestyles and super-chic people. If I have my way, and I’m lucky enough to find time, I fully intend to make one at some point….what it will look like will depend on what I find to make it with and whatever my whim is at the time….but in the meantime I’ll dream about this one. I adore florals, and bright, slightly-clashy colours. And this was has those aplenty. It’s £500 though, so will remain a *want* I think!

Memory Balloon Ceiling Light, by John Moncrieff, £99

I nearly died when I saw these. I mean, could there be a more clever, more whimsical, or more enchanting way to light a room?! These hand blown glass balloons are actually working ceiling lights, and come in red, green, orange, blue, pink, yellow and opal…..so you can match with your room, or make it look like a party with one of each! Again, they don’t come cheap, but they’re worth every penny in my opinion, because they are just so bally amazing.

Handmade Wedding Beach Hut Bird Box, by Lindleywood, £50

Of course, one shouldn’t neglect one’s garden when home-making, nor the creatures you might find there. And to that end….I want this gorgeous bird house! If I were a bird, I know I’d want to live there, and even if nobody wants to live in it, I know I’d love just having it in my garden to look pretty. You can even have it personalised…I suppose it’d be best to have our names on it though, as we won’t know the name of the birds who’d like to live in it until it’s all up in the garden.

Everything you see above is from the wonderful website Not On The High Street, where you’ll find amazing hand made treasures by the dozen. Just click on the picture to take you to each product I’ve talked about, or click here to go to their home page for some serious treasure hunting!

Enjoy!

Wednesday Wants…. Part One

I have a new Pinterest board that’s becoming increasingly busy….. My Want! board is full of pins that I couldn’t really fit anywhere else, but simply just had to pin them because I want the things so much!

So, ever the fan of alliteration, here I go with my first ‘Wednesday Want’…..

I have a serious need for this tiny skull bracelet. Yes, I do mean NEED. For I have nothing like it! I adore the tiny details, and skulls have become a bit of a thing for me lately (perhaps due to my recent obsession with Mexican Day of the Dead). What I like best I think about the very best skull jewellery I’ve seen is the juxtaposition of prettiness with, well, the rather less prettiness of a bit of a human skeleton.

And this bracelet by Iwona Ludyga from Les Mini Bijoux perfectly encapsulates this with its teeny tiny gold skull on a pretty pink string. So dainty! (And also comes in red!)

Looking for something similar and just as pretty from a UK shop, I happened upon this gorgeous skull link chain by Sturgis Jewellery…..

But I really haven’t been able to find anything like the one I really want in the UK, although I do love these charm bangles I found in my search, by BOUTIQUE by Jamie on Not On The High Street…. The bangles are really rather reasonable starting at £22, although I would want to add extra charms which would take it to a still reasonable £32 (my choice: skull, hand and cutlery).

Do visit my Want! board…. and let me know if you need a Pinterest invite.
