Sugar Sweet Kitschy Christmas Tree Ornaments

Soooooo….I’ve made it this long, but I just can’t wait any longer to get excited about Christmas! I’m really looking forward to starting to decorate our new home for our first Christmas here next week and have all sorts of ideas in my head!

There’ll be some crafting, arranging, foraging and re-arranging I’m sure, but right now I’m thinking about new decorations to buy! There have been a few in the shops I’ve had my eye on, and of course I’ve been spotting things online too.

I have my very own kitsch Christmas tree on account of Adam preferring the more traditional stuff….we have a ‘proper’ tree too but I do adore my white mini tree complete with colourful lights! It’s covered in crazy decorations and I got all excited to find a whole stash of new decorations on the wonderful Oh Deer online store that would make perfect additions (free shipping over £40 also ups the ante!). I just love all the sugar sweet colours, glitter and shininess…you may remember I pinned a whole bunch of such treasures on Pinterest, to which I’ll be adding these.

Here’s my round up of favourites that I’d love to add to my very special tree!

What glittery plans do you have for the Festive period?!

Changes…..

I’ve been doing some work towards making my site a bit prettier and easier to use….. I want to update my ‘About’ page, as I haven’t done so since starting the blog a year ago, and I want to make it simpler to find posts within specific categories. As always, I’m very pleased to hear any feedback and ideas!

First though, I’ve been drawing some little link illustrations to replace the standard ones I had before, for Twitter, Bloglovin etc. I find it much easier working with a pen and paper than with all the technomalogical stuff I’m trying to get my head round to develop my blog, so I thought I’d use some original images I’d created myself!

I’m rather pleased with them, especially my little drawing of my favourite camera! I’m hoping to use these as a starting point for how my new look takes shape….

Hope you like!

Nearly the weekend….. A Long Easter Weekend!

For me the weekend always starts on Friday anyway (it’s not a school night after all) but this weekend it’s official….. It’s a four day weekend, and there’s plenty to do to fill it up!

Hunt for eggs…..

It’s your last chance to find the 200+ decorated eggs dotted around London for The Big Egg Hunt…… And for the final ‘Eggstravaganza’ you can see all the eggs together in the Covent Garden Piazza before they are auctioned off for charity.

Get your Easter Chocolate fix from cocktails…..

Inspired by their favourite chocolate bars, Kettner’s are celebrating Easter with a special menu of Easter Chocolate Martinis….. Choose from “Bounty” – Koko Kanu Coconut rum with creme de cacoa and fresh coconut….. “Crunchie” – Manuka Honey vodka, honey and caramel with a crunchie garnish….. “Chocolate Orange” – Orange flavoured vodka and Grand Marnier with crème de cacao, all at £8.50.

A good Sunday lunch…..

Corrigan’s of Mayfair  invites you to spend a lovely Sunday lunch with them, with a gorgeous menu from just £27 per person….. I like the sound of the Glazed Rock Oyster with Leek Puree, Aged Rib of Beef with Horseradish Cream & Yorkshire Pudding, and the Pear & Lime Pannacotta with Yoghurt Sorbet.

It’s not just about Easter…..

This Saturday also sees the Oxford v Cambridge Boat Race from Putney to Mortlake. It starts at 2:15 but be sure to grab a spot at a river side pub nice and early! You can see a map of where to watch from here….

Get Crafty…..

My Pinterest account has been filling up with Easter-related ideas I’m super keen to try out. Here are some of my favourites…..

Have a lovely long weekend and eat plenty of chocolate!

A new fictional girl crush….. I want to be Jess Day

So no sooner had I publicly addressed my love for Glee’s Emma Pilsbury, than I was introduced to the wonderful Jess Day in New Girl. I have been totally hooked on the show since seeing the pilot a few weeks ago, and finding it really difficult to wait for each new episode!

All of the characters are brilliant in this show….. I adore Nick (and am hoping he and Jess get together before the end of the season)….. Winston is excellent…… and Schmidt is just hilarious (Adam and I keep saying ‘chut-e-ney’ like he does, and I’ve vowed to take on ‘yacht flair’ as my Spring wardrobe trend!).

But Jess is really what it’s all about, and as well as her gorgeously quirky and (forgive me) adorkable character, I am head over heals for her wardrobe.

And so it was that another Pinterest board was born…… It’s not as busy as my Emma Pilsbury one yet, because it’s so much newer. But it is growing fast and I thought I’d share some pieces with you here, and some of Jess’ key looks…..

The first lesson is COLOUR….. Although I’ve not picked up a real idea of a colour palette for Jess yet, the general trend seems to be for bold, bright, and not necessarily co-ordinated! The rule is always no black and white though…..

And almost as important, and so different from Emma, the hem lines are MUCH higher! A bright, full, shortie skirt is a must for the Jess wardrobe…..

Next is print….. a mix-match of quirky prints is very Jess indeed…….

This is one look I’d love to take on, but I can’t see it unless something drastic happens to my thighs….. still, for those who are blessed with a lovely set of pins, like Jess, there is the cutesy shorts look…..

Not one for predictability though, Jess doesn’t vamp up her shorts with heels….. ballet pumps and geeky flats are a must for the Jess look…..

And certainly not one for a teensy clutch, you’re more likely to see Jess with a big and bright, over-sized hand bag….. more space to keep such things as ‘the feeling stick’ and her over-night sewing kit!

Perhaps her most easily recognisable style feature though, and probably my favourite, are her beautiful horn-rim glasses. A style that would once have been considered nerdy, these over-sized specs are not for every face, but Jess certainly carries them off a treat.

My ‘I Love Jess Day’ board continues to grow, so do pop on to see it…… and watch out for more Emma and Jess here….. I feel a ‘Jess vs Emma’ post coming on!

A sugar sweet Christmas

I’ve recently been introduced to the wonderful world of Pinterest, and amongst all its fabulous offerings, it’s the Christmas ideas I’m currently most obsessed with. I’ve created a board of beautiful ideas along a Sugar Sweet Christmas theme…… here are a few of my favourites…..

This is where it all began…..a tree of sweeties in sugar icing tones…..

I was desperate to do this but really haven’t had time this year…..I surely will next Christmas though!……
This is how I intend to spend much of Christmas Eve!…..
I love Paperchase all year round, but at Christmas it’s off the chart!…..
I love this idea for glamming up ordinary fairy lights with ribbon offcuts……
How beautiful are these! Definitely a project I want to try…..
 So simple and clever!…..
I may need to hone my skills in meringue making before attempting these…..
I’m sure I can manage these though…..
Probably my favourite tree decoration this year…..very clever mini versions of the Jeff Koons classic…..
And what would Christmas be without a gorgeous, festive dress…..
The tree of my dreams….for this year at least!
